Hallmark’s Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story is a rom-com for the ages, combining football superstitions with romantic gestures — and lots of celebrity cameos.
In the network’s official trailer for the movie, which dropped on Thursday, November 14, fans got to see Jenna Bush Hager, Donna Kelce and Andy Reid make their Hallmark debut — not to mention the real-life Kansas City Chiefs players who pop in and out of the movie.
“Ladies and gentlemen please turn your attention to midfield,” Bush Hager, 42, says in the trailer, holding a Chiefs microphone while standing beside three players on the field.
The Today Show With Hoda and Jenna cohost appears to be a gameday announcer in the film, sharing news about the “Fan of the Year” award that one lucky person can win.
“We are finalists for the ‘Fan of the Year’ award,” Alana (Hunter King) tells her family, who are thrilled to meet Chiefs director of engagement, Derrick (Tyler Hynes), when they realize he determines the winner.
Throughout the trailer, Chiefs fan Alana gets to know Derrick and the two seemingly catch feelings (not footballs) for each other. Derrick, however, isn’t sure that the lore surrounding Alana’s family tradition is the real deal.
Chiefs guard Trey Smith, meanwhile, is on Alana’s side when he makes a cameo at one of the special events.
“Oh yeah, I know who you are,” Smith, 26, tells Alana in the trailer, who is wearing a red gown with gold flecks, as yet another nod to the NFL team and their colors. (Yes, it does feel a lot like something Taylor Swift would do to pay homage to Chiefs tight end boyfriend, Travis Kelce.)
“You do,” a stunned Alana responds. “Yeah, the lucky Christmas hat,” Smith says rather matter of fact.
Alana then reveals the superstition around her family’s coveted beanie. “We only get to the Super Bowl if someone in our house wears the hat on Christmas,” she tells Derrick.
“Oh, OK,” he says unconvinced. “Do you not believe me?” Alana wonders, to which Derrick replies, “I just need to see some of that Christmas magic for myself.”
Moments later, snow begins to fall over the pair, hinting that holiday magic is in the air. “OK, that’s pretty good,” Derrick admits, noting Alana didn’t have the hat when it happened. “No, but we were talking about it,” she teases.
As winning the “Fan of the Year” award becomes more of a reality, Alana and Derrick get closer and closer — and Alana’s family aren’t the only ones who see it.
“Trust me on this one,” Travis’ mom, Donna, says in the video, holding a plate of gingerbread cookies. While it’s not clear if she’s talking to Alana, the clip hints that Donna, who plays a manager in the film, is on her side.
Chiefs head coach Reid, meanwhile, appears at the end of the trailer, telling Derrick and Alana, “Guys, we kinda need the field now!”
“Tis the season to let fate call the plays,” Hallmark teases to conclude the trailer, adding one last football pun for good measure.
Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story premieres on Hallmark Channel Saturday, November 30, at 8 p.m. ET.
