Web3 streaming overlay platform Azarus has reported record engagement from its recent coverage of the Evo Tournament. Azarus provided enhanced content for the Twitch streams that enabled global esports fans to keep up with the Las Vegas event which ran from July 19-21.

Evolution Championship Series, better known as Evo, is the leading esports fighting event that unites players, streamers, and fans for three days of PvP and team battles. Prior to the AT&T sponsored event commencing, Azarus sealed a partnership with Twitch, allowing live streams to be enhanced using Azarus’ patented overlays. All signs point to that partnership having been a major success.

Tens of Thousands Take Part

Azarus provided a range of trivia games that viewers tuning into the Evo streams on Twitch could participate in. At its peak, a record 37,000 players are reported to have been playing these mini-games concurrently at Evo, demonstrating both the capacity of the overlay technology and the demand for streaming enhanced services.

Azarus reports that a total of more than 74,0000 viewers took part in these mini-games during the Evo tournament. The most popular of these, Rock Paper Scissors, embodies the simple pleasures Azarus provides. With the ability to play the game against the Evo Champion in real-time, this game proved phenomenally popular, hitting 51% engagement rate with stream viewers.

In addition to mini-games, the trivia overlays also resonated with viewers. These tasked Evo streamers with answering questions based on clips they had just seen. The lure of PlayStation Plus Premium Vouchers and Evo Online Merch Vouchers, which were up for grabs, helped further drive engagement and contributed to the live stream experience.

Fighting Meets Fun at Evo

Since its inception in 2002, Evo has evolved into a legendary esports event that unites fans of the best fighting games across multiple formats and eras. Today, Evo is a global event that attracts the world’s best esports players as well as major sponsors. Now owned by RTS and Sony Interactive Entertainment, Evo unites around 60,000 fans a year who relish the opportunity to meet up and mingle. Hundreds of thousands more catch the best of the action through streaming platforms such as Twitch.

The 2024 Evo included a host of exhibitions and game reveals, treating fans to the likes of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, as well as a Live Rivals React with Justin Wong and IFC Yipes. There were also panels from Capcom, Bandai Namco, Arc System Works, Cygames and SNK.

Following the success of its Twitch partnership for Evo 2024, Azarus is on a mission to implement similar collaborations that will prove its thesis that the future of streaming is interactive. Now owned by web3 powerhouse Animoca Brands, Azarus has found a winning formula for maximizing fan engagement and brand outreach. It aims to continue its fruitful partnership with Twitch while pursuing other opportunities to enhance streaming with web3 technology.
