Matt Smith is opening up about one “hairy” aspect of filming House of the Dragon.
During a recent cast panel at New York Comic Con, the 41-year-old actor spoke about what he finds to be one of the most difficult parts about filming — and his castmates agreed.
“The wigs are hard,” said Smith, per People, as he spoke about the show alongside his costars Tom Glynn-Carney and Fabien Frankel.
Glynn-Carney, who plays Aegon on the hit HBO show and Game of Thrones spinoff, agreed on the issues with the “wigs, the bald caps [and] the pins.”
Smith, who portrays Daemon Targaryen, opined on how difficult the hair element of his costume is to maintain.
“I can’t go through it again,” the Doctor Who alum said “I can’t. It killed me.”
On the show, Smith’s character has a distinct haircut and color, showing long platinum locks pulled back in a half-up, half-down ponytail. The look is extremely different from his usual ‘do — short brown hair, often swept to one side.
He also acknowledged that his issue isn’t necessarily a dire one, teasing, ”Sorry — these are champagne problems, aren’t they?”
Smith is currently filming another project, titled Caught Stealing alongside Austin Butler.
He said that during his time working on the movie, he looked into different wig options that might be easier for him.
“I’ve been talking to the makeup people there, going, ‘Is there a way around it?’ And they’re like, ‘There is,’” he revealed.
Even if Smith doesn’t find another wig option for his Targaryen role, he might not need to deal with the trouble for much longer. HBO previously announced that the popular series will end with season 4.
Season 3 is set to film in early 2025, but the actors made it clear during their panel that they don’t have any information for what’s to come in Westeros.
“I’ve not heard hide nor hair,” said Smith. “I’ve not heard a thing.”
Glynn-Carney, 29, said that he hasn’t heard “not a jot, not a letter.” Frankel, 30, added, “I’ve heard some things that I couldn’t possibly share here.”
The show is intended to be a prequel to the extremely popular Game of Thrones series, which concluded in 2019 after eight seasons. House of the Dragon takes place around 200 years, before Game of Thrones, and is somewhat based on the 2018 book Fire and Blood written by George R.R. Martin.
Premiering in 2022, House of the Dragon was nominated for nine 2023 Emmy Awards and won one Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series — Drama.
