I think it’s fair to say that we all have known that the WaPo’s Taylor Lorenz has issues.
But it looks like she may have stepped in it again and this time it appears the Washington Post is reacting to it.
The story is typically Lorenz — dumb.
Here’s what she posted on X about the “White House Creator Economy Summit.”

But Lorenz also posted a picture on Instagram with Joe Biden in the background. The caption over the picture read “war criminal” with a sad-face emoji. But she posted it with the “close friends” feature, so only they could see it and regular followers couldn’t see it.
But the NY Post’s Jon Levine, who is not a “close friend,” picked up on it and posted about it on X.

Then Lorenz responded, suggesting her post/picture had been manipulated/not real, “You people will fall for any dumbass edit someone makes.”

That response even got a Community Note appended to Levine’s post, saying Lorenz denied it.
But then NPR report dropped which said that Lorenz told her editors someone else added the caption but they got an actual screen grab of the post which contained that caption which was not seen by most of her followers.
Four people with direct knowledge of the private Instagram story confirmed its authenticity to NPR. They spoke to NPR on condition they not be identified due to the professional sensitivity of the situation for Lorenz.
The Washington Post did not sound amused by Lorenz’s actions.
“Our executive editor and senior editors take alleged violations of our standards seriously,” a spokesperson for the newspaper told NPR. “We’re aware of the alleged post and are looking into it.” Lorenz declined to comment.
The Community Note was amended to include what NPR reported.
According to NPR, Lorenz later claimed a friend added the caption to her post as a joke. That doesn’t fit with what she originally said.
Another funny element, the left is now jumping to her defense, apparently thinking she struck some kind of a blow against “Genocide Joe” by calling him a “war criminal.” They’re mad at NPR for their article on the subject and the WaPo for looking into the incident.
Will the WaPo finally do something about Lorenz? I wouldn’t bet the farm on it, given her history of saying silly things with nothing done.

But if she misled the WaPo editors as NPR indicates, they might not let that go by. Has some karma finally arrived for Lorenz?
It’s funny that what finally got them to say anything at all about Lorenz involved a jab at Joe Biden for being a “war criminal.” Is it her actions in how she handled it that’s the problem to the WaPo, or the fact that the post appeared to call out Biden that’s finally earned a response from them?
It would be supremely funny if she ultimately got the boot for not being straight about something so dumb.
