The feud between Elon Musk and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is heating up. The owner of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, announced earlier this week that he plans to file a lawsuit against the organization for misleading advertisers about the level of antisemitic content on the social media platform. He contends that the ADL has been engaged in a yearslong effort to attack the company by targeting its ad revenue.
During a recent appearance on MSNBC, Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the ADL, claimed that Musk’s vendetta against the organization was motivated by anti-Jewish bigotry. “We’re just a small nonprofit,” the CEO said. “Blaming the Jews, if you will, that’s classic scapegoating. It’s not what happened here.”

In an interview on CNN, Greenblatt told host Abby Phillips that “there is a problem across all social media services” and that “anti-Jewish acts have reached historic levels in the United States.”
On Monday, Musk posted a series of tweets explaining that the ADL is trying to destroy X and has already been responsible for a significant drop in revenue.

For someone who claims to be serious about curbing anti-Jewish bigotry, Greenblatt sure seems to throw the word “antisemitism” quite liberally when trying to discredit the opposition. Much like his comrades on the hard left, he doesn’t seem concerned about watering down the seriousness of the word by overusing it. The notion that Musk is motivated by anti-Jewish sentiment is ridiculous. There is absolutely no credible evidence showing that the owner of X holds animus toward Jews.
What is happening here is that a company is finally fighting back against groups like the ADL, who purport to be champions against bigotry but, in reality, they are political actors pushing a political agenda. Before Musk bought the platform, the ADL was not nearly as aggressive in its smear campaigns against the company. To be fair, this could be because the previous management acquiesced to the organization’s demands, whatever they were.
Yet, Musk on Wednesday noted that the ADL “kicked off a massive Twitter boycott campaign less than a week after the acquisition was closed.” If this is true, it means the organization didn’t even give Musk a chance to start running the company before they started attacking it, further indicating that the smear campaign is based more on politics than on fighting bigotry.

Musk recently announced that he would be releasing data to expose the actions of the ADL and other groups that advocated for censorship on the platform within the next two weeks. These revelations could potentially be as big as the Twitter Files. At this point, it is unclear how Musk’s legal action against the ADL will pan out. But one thing that is clear is that these leftist groups will have a much harder time bending X to their will than they have with other social media sites.
